Maestro Zheng Xiaoying spearheaded the revival of Chinese composer Shi Guangnan’s opera The Sadness (伤逝), securing the original manuscript with consent from the composer’s spouse,  Hong Ruding. After meticulous restoration by conductor Chen Bing and composer Kong Lingwei—cross-referencing the 2003 recording Wisteria (紫藤花)—the work premiered in 2011 as a chamber ensemble adaptation in Xiamen. This revival reignites Shi Guangnan’s legacy, transforming a once-dormant masterpiece into a timeless treasure for new generations.
