Our Mission
Zheng Xiaoying Opera Center aims to "bring opera close to the public and let the public come into the opera", promotes the singing of western classic opera in Chinese, establishes the "Incubation Workshop" for Chinese operas, and devotes itself to improving musical sentiment of Xiamen and its citizens, and helping the city to build as a cultural center, a city of art, and an island of music.
Under the strong support of the Xiamen Municipal People's Government, Zheng Xiaoying Opera Center was officially registered on January 11, 2022 as a private non-enterprise legal entity of the music group. It is the first non-profit, talented organization in China capable of opera production independently. It was founded by Professor Zheng Xiaoying who also serves as the artistic director of the Zheng Xiaoying Opera Center.
Zheng Xiaoying Opera Center highly focuses on the cultivation of opera talents. Following the standard international practices of opera music studio, the Opera Center carries out a comprehensive teaching mode with the conductor as the main instructor and Chinese and foreign classic opera clips as the teaching materials, so as to establish a correct concept of opera music for the students and lay a solid foundation for them to go to the opera stage.
Since 2010, with the support of Xiamen Institute of Technology, Zheng Xiaoying Opera Center has performed five Chinese and foreign classic operas, including Chinese national opera Wisteria, the concert version of Yue Fei, and the Chinese version of the Italian opera La Traviata, the opera buffa Don Pasquale, the Vienna operetta The Merry Widow. These practices have made useful explorations for "western opera sang in Mandarin” and the creation of "incubation workshops" for Chinese opera. On this basis, Zheng Xiaoying Opera Center was invited to perform at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing. It also competed in the first Chinese Opera Festival, winning several awards and attracting widespread attention for its outstanding performance. From 2022, the Opera Center has re-staged Chinese national opera The Wisteria, The Song of the Prairie and three other national operas. The Opera Center has also presented the Chinese version of La Traviata, The Merry Widow,Don Pasquale, The Rigoletto, and Le Nozze di Figaro. In 2024, the Opera Center will present the Chinese version of Tosca. Zheng Xiaoying Opera Center continues to make positive contributions to the development of the opera in China.
