Tchaikovsky’s three-act lyrical opera, Eugene Onegin, based on Alexander Pushkin’s novel in verse, was completed in 1879. Through its soulful and delicate musical language, it tells the story of love and tragedy involving the aloof young aristocrat Onegin, the innocent Tatyana, and the romantic poet Lensky.

The masterpiece profoundly depicts the spiritual dilemmas and emotional entanglements of youth in 19th-century Russian aristocratic society. It brings to life Russian literature’s first "superfluous man"—Onegin—composing an eternal poem of youth, love, regret, and fate. Today, it stands as one of the world's most beloved Russian operas.
