Aygül was premiered at the Central Opera Theatre in 1965. The libretto was adapted from the film Red Flowers on the Tianshan Mountains. Aygül is the first female production team leader on the Kazakh grasslands. Under her leadership, the production team achieved a bumper harvest, and the lives of the people improved. The community—including Aygül's husband—abandoned the feudal and backward belief that "a female goose cannot lead the flock far."
